Tilicho Peak

Tilicho Peak is a famous peak situated at the height of 7134m in altitude at the north of Manang in the Annapurna region. Northeast Ridge of the peak is covered with snow which impressively towers the high Kali Gandaki valley to the west and Marshyangdi valley to the east. There are two routes for climbing this peak and they are via Marshyangdi valley route and Kaligandaki valley route but the route through Kaligandaki valley it is very hard to cross the Messocanto pass (at an altitude of 5300m) but from the top of the pass relaxing view of Tilicho lake can be seen.

Tilicho peak climbing is not so easy and a fine technique is required for climbing and considered as challenging climb. Trekking to this peak follows the route of Annapurna circuit up to Manang village and then towards the Tilicho lake following the way to the mountain via Khangsar and Besi Khola. The climb is very straight from the base camp to camp I at the height of 5800m which is situated on a shelf below the Northwest shoulder. The camp II is situated at the height of 6100m located on the shoulder with a 500m long snowfield. Finally, climbing to the Tilicho peak requires fixed ropes from camp II at 6300m. From the summit of the peak, magnificent views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho Lake, Tibetan plateau and down to the deepest valley in the world the Kali Gandaki Valley can be observed. Tilicho Lake is a glacial lake with its own beauty and people say that they often find marine fossils supporting the fact that the Himalayas were once beneath the sea.

The climbing season of the peak in Nepal is normally on the spring season (March-May) and autumn season (October-November) as trekkers can make the journey easier from climatic point of view and best time to visit Tilicho Lake is in summer season because the weather is considerably warmer which is believed to make the trail easier.
